  • 2 lbs Ground beef (80/20 blend for best flavor)
  • 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs (plain or seasoned)
  • 1 Egg (beaten)
  • 1 Onion (finely diced) — for the patties
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Black pepper
  • 3 tbsp Butter (salted or unsalted) — for the gravy
  • 3 tbsp All-purpose flour (for thickening the gravy)
  • 2 cups Beef broth (low sodium preferred)
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 1 Onion (sliced) — for the gravy
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease an oven-safe skillet or a 9×13 baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, gently mix the ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, finely diced onion, salt, and pepper. Avoid overmixing to keep patties tender.
  3. Form the mixture into 6–8 oval-shaped patties and let rest for 5–10 minutes.
  4. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown patties for 3–4 minutes per side; remove and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, add butter and sauté sliced onion until soft (6–8 minutes). Stir in garlic powder.
  6. Sprinkle flour over the onion mixture, stir for 2 minutes, then gradually whisk in beef broth and heavy cream until smooth. Cook until gravy thickens and adjust seasoning.
  7. Nestle the patties in the gravy, spooning sauce over them, and cover tightly.
  8. Bake covered for 45 minutes, then uncover and bake for 15 more minutes.
  9. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Allow the dish to rest post-baking to help the juices redistribute. Can be customized for dietary needs with simple swaps.
