Cheddar Ranch Chicken Tater Tot Bake


Description

A comforting casserole with roasted potato, melted cheddar, and creamy chicken filling, topped with crispy tater tots.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked chicken, shredded (about 2 medium chicken breasts, ~280 g)
  • 1 cup ranch dressing (240 ml)
  • 3 cups frozen tater tots (about 450 g)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (about 113 g)
  • 1/2 cup green onions, chopped (about 50 g)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Nonstick spray or 1 tablespoon butter for greasing the dish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray or butter.
  2. In a large bowl, combine shredded chicken, ranch dressing, garlic powder, and onion powder. Season lightly with salt and pepper; avoid overmixing to keep the texture chunky.
  3. Spread the chicken mixture evenly across the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  4. Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer on top of the chicken mixture.
  5. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the tater tots.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25–30 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy and the cheese is melted and bubbly. Broil for an extra 1–2 minutes if desired.
  7. Remove from the oven and let rest for 5 minutes. Garnish with chopped green onions before serving.

Notes

For extra crispiness, brush tater tots with oil before baking. Consider using rotisserie chicken for convenience.
