Chocolate Caramel Dump Cake


Description

A quick and indulgent dessert featuring layers of chocolate cake and gooey caramel, topped with rich chocolate ganache.


Ingredients

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (approx. 15.25 oz)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup caramel sauce
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chunks or chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • Chocolate shavings (optional)
  • Chopped nuts or toffee bits (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (163°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the chocolate cake mix, eggs, milk, melted butter, baking powder, and sour cream until smooth.
  3. Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly. Drizzle the warmed caramel sauce over the batter.
  4. Gently spoon the remaining batter over the caramel.
  5. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out with moist crumbs.
  6. For the ganache, heat heavy cream in a bowl until hot, then add chocolate chunks. Let sit for 1 minute, then stir until smooth.
  7. Let the cake cool for 10 minutes. Pour the ganache over the top, spread evenly, and optionally top with chocolate shavings or nuts.
  8. Allow the ganache to set for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Avoid overmixing the batter for a tender cake. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream for best results.
