Description
A quick and indulgent dessert featuring layers of chocolate cake and gooey caramel, topped with rich chocolate ganache.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 box chocolate cake mix (approx. 15.25 oz)
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1 cup caramel sauce
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chunks or chips
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- Chocolate shavings (optional)
- Chopped nuts or toffee bits (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 325°F (163°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the chocolate cake mix, eggs, milk, melted butter, baking powder, and sour cream until smooth.
- Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly. Drizzle the warmed caramel sauce over the batter.
- Gently spoon the remaining batter over the caramel.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out with moist crumbs.
- For the ganache, heat heavy cream in a bowl until hot, then add chocolate chunks. Let sit for 1 minute, then stir until smooth.
- Let the cake cool for 10 minutes. Pour the ganache over the top, spread evenly, and optionally top with chocolate shavings or nuts.
- Allow the ganache to set for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
Avoid overmixing the batter for a tender cake. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream for best results.
