Description
A classic French dessert, the Chocolate Yule Log is a rich and velvety cake filled with chocolate cream and topped with smooth ganache, perfect for festive celebrations.

- 4 large eggs
- 100g granulated sugar
- 100g all-purpose flour
- 30g unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 200ml heavy cream (for filling)
- 100g dark chocolate, chopped (for filling)
- 1 tbsp powdered sugar (adjust to taste)
- 200g dark chocolate, chopped (for ganache)
- 200ml heavy cream (for ganache)
- Whipped cream and chocolate shavings (for decoration)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Line a 10×15 inch baking tray with parchment paper.
- Beat the eggs and granulated sugar together until pale and foamy, about 5 minutes.
- Sift the flour, cocoa powder, and salt into the egg mixture, folding gently.
- Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking tray and bake for 12-15 minutes.
- Invert the cake onto a clean tea towel dusted with powdered sugar, roll it up in the towel while it’s still hot, and let it cool completely.
- For the filling, heat the heavy cream and pour it over the chopped chocolate. Whisk until smooth and refrigerate until thickened.
- Unroll the cooled cake, spread the chilled filling evenly, and roll it back up.
- For the ganache, heat the cream and pour it over the chopped chocolate, then whisk until shiny.
- Place the rolled cake on a platter, pour the ganache over it, and chill to set.
- Decorate with whipped cream and chocolate shavings before serving.
Notes
Ensure eggs are at room temperature for better volume. Use high-quality chocolate for richer flavor.
