Chocolate Yule Log


Description

A classic French dessert, the Chocolate Yule Log is a rich and velvety cake filled with chocolate cream and topped with smooth ganache, perfect for festive celebrations.


Ingredients

  • 4 large eggs
  • 100g granulated sugar
  • 100g all-purpose flour
  • 30g unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 200ml heavy cream (for filling)
  • 100g dark chocolate, chopped (for filling)
  • 1 tbsp powdered sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 200g dark chocolate, chopped (for ganache)
  • 200ml heavy cream (for ganache)
  • Whipped cream and chocolate shavings (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Line a 10×15 inch baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. Beat the eggs and granulated sugar together until pale and foamy, about 5 minutes.
  3. Sift the flour, cocoa powder, and salt into the egg mixture, folding gently.
  4. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking tray and bake for 12-15 minutes.
  5. Invert the cake onto a clean tea towel dusted with powdered sugar, roll it up in the towel while it’s still hot, and let it cool completely.
  6. For the filling, heat the heavy cream and pour it over the chopped chocolate. Whisk until smooth and refrigerate until thickened.
  7. Unroll the cooled cake, spread the chilled filling evenly, and roll it back up.
  8. For the ganache, heat the cream and pour it over the chopped chocolate, then whisk until shiny.
  9. Place the rolled cake on a platter, pour the ganache over it, and chill to set.
  10. Decorate with whipped cream and chocolate shavings before serving.

Notes

Ensure eggs are at room temperature for better volume. Use high-quality chocolate for richer flavor.
