Classic Meatloaf

Description

A timeless comfort food that transforms simple ingredients into a sumptuous meal, perfect for family gatherings or weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup ketchup (plus extra for topping)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Diced bell peppers or mushrooms (optional)
  • Oats instead of breadcrumbs (optional)
  • Cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, milk, ketchup, eggs, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix until just combined; avoid overmixing to keep the meatloaf tender.
  3. Transfer the meat mixture to a loaf pan and shape it into a loaf.
  4. Spread a thin layer of ketchup on top if desired, for a glossy finish.
  5. Bake for 1 hour or until the meatloaf is cooked through and reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (70°C).
  6. Let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

To ensure even cooking, use ground beef with a fat content of around 80/20. Avoid overmixing the ingredients to prevent a dry meatloaf.
