Description
Irresistibly crunchy on the outside and gooey on the inside, these fried mozzarella sticks make for the perfect appetizer or snack.
Ingredients
Scale
- 12 sticks string mozzarella cheese (about 12 x 1 oz sticks)
- 1/2 cup (60 g) all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 2 cups (200 g) plain breadcrumbs (or panko for extra crunch)
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- Oil for frying (vegetable, canola, or peanut) — about 2–3 cups for deep frying
- Optional: 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning or garlic powder
- Optional: 1/2 cup grated Parmesan
- Marinara sauce, ranch, or spicy sriracha mayo for serving
Instructions
- Cut the string cheese into halves or thirds to about 2–3 inches long.
- Set up a breading station with flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs.
- Dip cheese in flour, then eggs, and then coat with breadcrumbs. For a stronger crust, double-dip.
- Place breaded sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for 30–60 minutes.
- Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep fryer or pot.
- Fry the cheese sticks in batches for 3–4 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve warm with dipping sauce.
Notes
Freeze the cheese sticks before frying to prevent leaking. For less oil, consider baking or using an air fryer.
