French Onion Potato Bake

Description

A cozy and comforting dish that combines the rich flavors of caramelized onions with fluffy potatoes and a gooey cheese topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (Swiss or Gruyère)
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup chicken or vegetable broth
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat and add the sliced onions. Cook until they caramelize, about 15-20 minutes.
  3. In a baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, then top with half of the caramelized onions and half of the cheese. Repeat the layers.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix the sour cream and broth together until smooth and pour over the layered ingredients in the baking dish.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  7. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
  8. Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool slightly. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

Allow to cool completely before storing. Can be refrigerated for 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months. For added flavor, consider broiling the dish for a few minutes after baking.
