- 2 pounds potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cups shredded cheese (Swiss or Gruyère)
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup chicken or vegetable broth
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat and add the sliced onions. Cook until they caramelize, about 15-20 minutes.
- In a baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, then top with half of the caramelized onions and half of the cheese. Repeat the layers.
- In a separate bowl, mix the sour cream and broth together until smooth and pour over the layered ingredients in the baking dish.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
- Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool slightly. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
Notes
Allow to cool completely before storing. Can be refrigerated for 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months. For added flavor, consider broiling the dish for a few minutes after baking.
