Ground Beef Philly Cheesesteaks

Description

Quick and savory Ground Beef Philly Cheesesteaks with tender beef, caramelized onions, and gooey provolone cheese, all wrapped in a crispy hoagie roll.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 recommended)
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 23 hoagie rolls
  • 1 cup shredded provolone (or cheese whiz)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced (optional)
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms, sautéed (optional)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder or 1–2 cloves minced garlic (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare ingredients: Slice the onion and any optional vegetables.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add olive oil.
  3. Add the sliced onion to the skillet, cooking until softened and beginning to caramelize, about 6–8 minutes.
  4. If using, add the sliced peppers and mushrooms and cook until tender.
  5. Push the vegetables to the side and add the ground beef, breaking it up with a spatula. Cook until no pink remains, about 5–7 minutes, seasoning with salt and pepper (and garlic if using) toward the end.
  6. Reduce heat to low, mix the onions and beef, then sprinkle shredded provolone over the mixture, stirring gently until melted.
  7. Open the hoagie rolls and spoon the beef-and-cheese mixture into each roll.
  8. For a crispy edge, place the sandwiches on a baking sheet and broil for 30–60 seconds. Serve immediately.

Notes

Customize your cheesesteak with different types of cheese, rolls, or added vegetables. For a leaner option, use 90/10 ground beef or ground turkey.
