Description
Quick and savory Ground Beef Philly Cheesesteaks with tender beef, caramelized onions, and gooey provolone cheese, all wrapped in a crispy hoagie roll.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 recommended)
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 2–3 hoagie rolls
- 1 cup shredded provolone (or cheese whiz)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced (optional)
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms, sautéed (optional)
- 1 tsp garlic powder or 1–2 cloves minced garlic (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare ingredients: Slice the onion and any optional vegetables.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add olive oil.
- Add the sliced onion to the skillet, cooking until softened and beginning to caramelize, about 6–8 minutes.
- If using, add the sliced peppers and mushrooms and cook until tender.
- Push the vegetables to the side and add the ground beef, breaking it up with a spatula. Cook until no pink remains, about 5–7 minutes, seasoning with salt and pepper (and garlic if using) toward the end.
- Reduce heat to low, mix the onions and beef, then sprinkle shredded provolone over the mixture, stirring gently until melted.
- Open the hoagie rolls and spoon the beef-and-cheese mixture into each roll.
- For a crispy edge, place the sandwiches on a baking sheet and broil for 30–60 seconds. Serve immediately.
Notes
Customize your cheesesteak with different types of cheese, rolls, or added vegetables. For a leaner option, use 90/10 ground beef or ground turkey.
