Moist Homemade Chocolate Cake


Description

A rich and moist chocolate cake perfect for any occasion, filled with deep cocoa goodness and topped with velvety frosting.


Ingredients

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for frosting)
  • ½ cup whole milk (for frosting)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • Chocolate shavings (optional garnish)
  • Fresh mint leaves (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until well combined.
  3. Add in the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix on medium speed for 2 minutes until fully combined and smooth.
  4. Carefully stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin, but this ensures a moist cake.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
  7. To prepare the frosting, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder, alternating with milk until desired consistency. Stir in vanilla extract.
  8. Once cakes are cool, spread frosting on one layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides of the cake.
  9. Garnish with chocolate shavings or fresh mint leaves if desired.

Notes

Serve with whipped cream or ice cream for a delightful treat.
