Mozzarella Cheese Sticks

Description

Crispy, golden mozzarella sticks with a gooey cheese center, perfect for any gathering or quick snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 oz (1 lb) low-moisture, part-skim mozzarella cheese block
  • 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup Italian seasoned breadcrumbs
  • Cooking spray or 2 cups vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In the first bowl, stir together the flour and garlic salt.
  2. In the second bowl, beat the eggs thoroughly.
  3. In the third bowl, place the breadcrumbs.
  4. Slice the mozzarella block into 20–24 sticks, each just under 1/2” thick and about 3” long.
  5. Dredge a cheese stick in flour, tapping off excess.
  6. Dip the floured stick into beaten eggs, letting excess drip off.
  7. Dip again lightly into flour, then into egg for a thicker coating.
  8. Roll the cheese stick in breadcrumbs until well-coated.
  9. Place the coated sticks on a platter and freeze for 45 minutes.
  10. Heat oil in a pot to 350°F.
  11. Fry cheese sticks in batches for 60–90 seconds until golden brown.
  12. Transfer fried sticks to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
  13. If baking, preheat oven to 425°F, place sticks on a parchment-lined sheet, spray with cooking spray, and bake for 8–10 minutes until golden.

Notes

Double-dredging and freezing are crucial for preventing cheese leakage during frying. Adjust oil temperature for better results.
