- 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- For optional frosting:
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ cup butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- ½ cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan with cooking spray or butter, and dust it with flour.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
- Slowly add boiling water; the batter will be thin.
- Pour batter into the prepared cake pan. Tap gently to remove air bubbles.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
- If making frosting, beat softened butter and cocoa powder until well blended. Gradually add powdered sugar and milk, mixing until the desired consistency.
- Once the cake is cool, frost with the chocolate frosting and decorate as desired.
Notes
Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for an extra treat!
