Perfect Mashed Potatoes

Description

Creamy and buttery mashed potatoes, a comforting staple for any meal, perfect for family gatherings and cozy nights in.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet)
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • Optional: 2 cloves garlic (for garlic mashed potatoes)
  • Optional: 1/4 cup heavy cream (for extra richness)
  • Optional: 1/4 cup sour cream (for tanginess)

Instructions

  1. Peel the potatoes and cut them into even-sized chunks (about 1-2 inches) to ensure uniform cooking.
  2. In a large pot, cover the potatoes with cold, salted water and bring to a boil. Cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until fork-tender.
  3. Carefully drain the potatoes and return them to the pot to help evaporate excess moisture.
  4. Add the butter and milk. Mash the potatoes with a potato masher until smooth, avoiding a food processor to prevent gluey potatoes.
  5. Add salt and pepper to taste. Optionally incorporate garlic, cream, or sour cream for added flavor.
  6. Serve warm and enjoy the aroma that fills the air.

Notes

For best flavor, use high-quality butter. A potato ricer can achieve an ultra-smooth texture. Always taste before serving to adjust seasoning.
