Description
Creamy and buttery mashed potatoes, a comforting staple for any meal, perfect for family gatherings and cozy nights in.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet)
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- Salt, to taste
- Pepper, to taste
- Optional: 2 cloves garlic (for garlic mashed potatoes)
- Optional: 1/4 cup heavy cream (for extra richness)
- Optional: 1/4 cup sour cream (for tanginess)
Instructions
- Peel the potatoes and cut them into even-sized chunks (about 1-2 inches) to ensure uniform cooking.
- In a large pot, cover the potatoes with cold, salted water and bring to a boil. Cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until fork-tender.
- Carefully drain the potatoes and return them to the pot to help evaporate excess moisture.
- Add the butter and milk. Mash the potatoes with a potato masher until smooth, avoiding a food processor to prevent gluey potatoes.
- Add salt and pepper to taste. Optionally incorporate garlic, cream, or sour cream for added flavor.
- Serve warm and enjoy the aroma that fills the air.
Notes
For best flavor, use high-quality butter. A potato ricer can achieve an ultra-smooth texture. Always taste before serving to adjust seasoning.
