- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, chopped
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons cream cheese, softened
- 1 tablespoon milk
- Pink food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, heat the milk and butter over medium heat until melted. Let it cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Stir to mix.
- Add the warm milk mixture, egg, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Cover the bowl with a clean cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Roll out the risen dough on a floured surface into a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Evenly spread the chopped strawberries on top of the dough and sprinkle the ground cinnamon over them.
- Roll the dough tightly from one end to the other to form a log. Cut it into 12 equal pieces.
- Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cut-side up. Cover and let rise for an additional 30 minutes.
- Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes, or until they are lightly golden brown.
- While they bake, prepare the icing by mixing powdered sugar, cream cheese, milk, and a few drops of pink food coloring (if using) until smooth.
- Drizzle the icing over the warm rolls before serving.
Notes
Avoid overworking the dough for light and fluffy rolls. Check for doneness by tapping the bottom of a roll—it should sound hollow.
