Description
A comforting classic dish featuring seasoned beef patties drenched in velvety mushroom gravy, perfect for family dinners.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/4 cup bread crumbs
- 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups mushrooms, sliced
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined and shape into four patties.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook patties for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt butter. Sauté sliced mushrooms until tender and slight brown, about 5-7 minutes.
- Sprinkle flour over mushrooms and stir to coat. Gradually add beef broth, stirring constantly to prevent lumps and bring to a simmer.
- Stir in heavy cream and return cooked patties to skillet. Cover and cook for an additional 5 minutes until patties are heated through.
- Plate Salisbury steaks and spoon mushroom gravy over the top.
Notes
For a lighter option, use ground turkey. For a vegetarian version, substitute vegetable broth and plant-based cream.
