Description

These Salted Caramel Apple Pie Bars combine the sweet and salty flavors of caramel and apples for a delightful fall treat.


Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 cups apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt (for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8 inch baking dish.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, softened butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, salt, baking powder, and cinnamon. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until you have a crumbly texture.
  3. Press half of the mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking dish, forming a crust.
  4. Layer the sliced apples evenly over the crust, then drizzle the caramel sauce generously over the apples.
  5. Sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture on top of the caramel-drizzled apples, covering them entirely.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  7. Allow the bars to cool for about 10 minutes, then sprinkle with sea salt before slicing into squares.

Notes

For a vegan version, substitute coconut oil for butter and use flaxseed meal as an egg replacer.
