Smoky Garlic Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup milk or heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped chives for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Peel and chop the Yukon Gold potatoes into even chunks.
  2. In a large pot, cover the chunks with salted water. Bring to a boil and cook until tender, approximately 15-20 minutes.
  3. In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Sauté the minced garlic until fragrant, about 2-3 minutes; be careful not to burn it.
  4. Drain the cooked potatoes and return them to the pot. Add the garlic butter, milk or cream, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  5. Mash the mixture until smooth and creamy, adjusting seasoning to taste.
  6. Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with chopped chives, if desired. Serve warm for the best experience.

Notes

For a vegan version, substitute dairy with plant-based milk and vegan butter. Avoid overmixing potatoes to keep them creamy.
