Description
Warm, buttery layers of puff pastry filled with tangy cream cheese and fresh strawberries, shaped like hearts for a delightful treat.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup (50 g) granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 8–10 medium strawberries (about 8 oz / 225 g), hulled and thinly sliced
- 1 large egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp milk (optional, for egg wash)
- 1/2 cup (60 g) powdered sugar (for glaze, optional)
- 1–2 tbsp milk or lemon juice (to thin glaze, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven according to the puff pastry package instructions (typically 400°F / 200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut into 8 even heart shapes using a cookie cutter or sharp knife.
- In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with granulated sugar and vanilla extract until smooth and slightly fluffy.
- Place about 1 heaping tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each heart, leaving a border for folding.
- Top with a few slices of strawberry, arranging them attractively.
- Fold the edges of the pastry slightly around the filling to form a raised heart border. Brush the exposed edges with egg wash.
- Transfer to the baking sheet and bake according to package instructions or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown (12–18 minutes).
- Let cool for 5–10 minutes, then drizzle with glaze if desired.
- Serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
For best results, avoid overfilling danishes to prevent leaking. Chill shaped hearts before baking if puff pastry is sticky.
