Strawberry Cream Cheese Heart Danishes

Description

Warm, buttery layers of puff pastry filled with tangy cream cheese and fresh strawberries, shaped like hearts for a delightful treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup (50 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 810 medium strawberries (about 8 oz / 225 g), hulled and thinly sliced
  • 1 large egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp milk (optional, for egg wash)
  • 1/2 cup (60 g) powdered sugar (for glaze, optional)
  • 12 tbsp milk or lemon juice (to thin glaze, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven according to the puff pastry package instructions (typically 400°F / 200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut into 8 even heart shapes using a cookie cutter or sharp knife.
  3. In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with granulated sugar and vanilla extract until smooth and slightly fluffy.
  4. Place about 1 heaping tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each heart, leaving a border for folding.
  5. Top with a few slices of strawberry, arranging them attractively.
  6. Fold the edges of the pastry slightly around the filling to form a raised heart border. Brush the exposed edges with egg wash.
  7. Transfer to the baking sheet and bake according to package instructions or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown (12–18 minutes).
  8. Let cool for 5–10 minutes, then drizzle with glaze if desired.
  9. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

For best results, avoid overfilling danishes to prevent leaking. Chill shaped hearts before baking if puff pastry is sticky.
