Ingredients

  • 2 cups (240 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups (300 g) granulated sugar
  • ½ cup (113 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk
  • 3 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 3 large eggs
  • Food coloring (blue, pink, purple — gel colors recommended)
  • Buttercream frosting (see optional quantities below)
  • Decorations: princess figurines, edible glitter, sprinkles, candy pearls

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 3–4 minutes).
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then mix in milk and vanilla.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt; gradually add to wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  5. Divide batter into bowls and mix in food coloring.
  6. Pour colored batter into prepared pans and bake for 25–30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let cool for 10 minutes, then turn out onto cooling racks.
  8. Once cooled, level cake layers, apply a crumb coat of buttercream, then frost with a thicker layer and decorate as desired.
  9. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

For a lighter cake, consider using low-fat milk with Greek yogurt. For vegan options, replace butter and eggs with alternatives.
