Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 6 oz dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the milk and heavy cream. Heat over medium heat until hot but not boiling.
  2. Add the chopped dark chocolate, cocoa powder, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Whisk continuously until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  3. Continue to heat for a few more minutes until the hot chocolate thickens to your desired consistency.
  4. Serve warm in mugs, topped with whipped cream or cocoa if desired.

Notes

For a lighter version, use only whole milk and skip the heavy cream. For a spiced touch, add a pinch of cinnamon or a slice of orange peel while heating.
