- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 6 oz dark chocolate, chopped
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine the milk and heavy cream. Heat over medium heat until hot but not boiling.
- Add the chopped dark chocolate, cocoa powder, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Whisk continuously until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Continue to heat for a few more minutes until the hot chocolate thickens to your desired consistency.
- Serve warm in mugs, topped with whipped cream or cocoa if desired.
Notes
For a lighter version, use only whole milk and skip the heavy cream. For a spiced touch, add a pinch of cinnamon or a slice of orange peel while heating.
