Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups whole milk (or milk of choice)
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 cup chopped dark chocolate or 1 tablespoon chocolate chips (optional for richness)
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • A small pinch of salt
  • Whipped cream or marshmallows for top (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix the cocoa powder and sugar with 2 tablespoons of the cold milk to make a smooth paste.
  2. Heat the rest of the milk in a small pot over low heat. Do not boil.
  3. Add the cocoa paste to the warm milk and whisk until smooth.
  4. Stir in the chopped chocolate or chips, if using, and keep stirring until melted.
  5. Add vanilla and a pinch of salt. Taste and add more sugar if desired.
  6. Pour into a mug and add whipped cream or marshmallows if you want.

Notes

Use whole milk for a richer taste. Optionally, add a dusting of cocoa or chocolate shavings on top before serving.
