- 2 cups whole milk (or milk of choice)
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 cup chopped dark chocolate or 1 tablespoon chocolate chips (optional for richness)
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- A small pinch of salt
- Whipped cream or marshmallows for top (optional)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, mix the cocoa powder and sugar with 2 tablespoons of the cold milk to make a smooth paste.
- Heat the rest of the milk in a small pot over low heat. Do not boil.
- Add the cocoa paste to the warm milk and whisk until smooth.
- Stir in the chopped chocolate or chips, if using, and keep stirring until melted.
- Add vanilla and a pinch of salt. Taste and add more sugar if desired.
- Pour into a mug and add whipped cream or marshmallows if you want.
Notes
Use whole milk for a richer taste. Optionally, add a dusting of cocoa or chocolate shavings on top before serving.
