Ingredients

  • 1 cup rice (Basmati or Jasmine)
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons butter (or olive oil for a vegan option)
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter over medium heat in a pot. If using a vegan option, use olive oil instead.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until soft and fragrant (about 3-4 minutes).
  3. Stir in the turmeric and rice, cooking for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Pour in the water and add salt to taste. Bring to a boil.
  5. Once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover, and let simmer for 15-18 minutes or until the rice is cooked and the water is absorbed.
  6. Fluff the rice with a fork and serve warm.

Notes

For best results, rinse the rice before cooking and avoid overmixing.
